10 Questions with Meg & Dia

- by Mattias and Dave-Os -

1. In a nutshell, what was it like growing up as sisters?

M: You become extremely close. You’re with that person when you’re sleeping, when you’re awake, when you’re eating, so you really, really get to know each other. Sometimes I don’t even have to talk with her to communicate with her. I can just look at her and give her a glance or nod my head and she automatically knows what I’m talking about.

Mattias: And what’s your favorite sister-sister band?

M: Eisley.

Mattias: What about Tegan and Sara? Do you like them?

M: I love Tegan and Sara. They’re really good.

2. Can anyone else in your family play music, and if so would you let them be in the band?

M: Nobody else in my family can play music. If they could, I wouldn’t let them in the band anyway because one family member is enough.

Mattias: Would you ever call the band Dia and Meg if Dia really wanted it?

M: Yeah, if she wanted to I’d be fine with that. I would prefer to have neither of our names in our band name.

Mattias: Does she ever get jealous?

M: No. I mean it’s just a band name. She’s the lead singer; she gets all the attention anyway. *laughs*

3. A huge deal of your success came from your Myspace page. Did you do anything differently to promote yourself to separate yourselves from all the other bands?

M: Yeah. I think that we went through and personally answered every single message and comment we got. We still do that too, except when we’re at Warped Tour.

Mattias: Do you answer the ones where people are promoting their own bands?

M: No, we don’t answer those. I don’t really like those very much. *laughs*

4. What’s your favorite thing to do at the Warped Tour, other than watching bands?

M: I like to eat the catering here. It’s so good. They have vegan, and they always have the best dessert. Today it was brownies and yesterday it was pecan pie. It was great.

5. What is your all-time favorite book?

M: “Atlas Shrugged” because Ayn Rand is the smartest woman to have ever walked the earth. She explains the world in a way that’s both intriguing and interesting - and it’s easy to understand at the same time.

6. What is something fake or made up that you wish was real?

M: Peter Pan.

Mattias: He’s real.

M: Okay. *laughs*

7. If you had a time machine, what year or era would you go back to?

M: The 20s. That’s when the flappers were around. [It was] F. Scott Fitzgerald’s time with all the parties and the glamour.

8. Who’s the scariest monster that you can think of?

M: Freddy Krueger.

9. You were recently on the “TMNT” soundtrack. Were you fans of the Ninja Turtles growing up?

M: Yeah, I love the Ninja Turtles. I haven’t actually seen that movie yet.

Mattias: Who’s your favorite Ninja Turtle?

M: Donatello, because that’s the only one that I can remember.

Mattias: He’s the purple one. He’s smart. There’s Michelangelo; he’s the cool one. Leonardo’s the leader, and Raphael is the gruff one.

M: Oh. There you go.

10. Who would you like to see next on Band of the Day?

M: Ooh. Hold on, let me think about this.

Mattias: Yeah, think about it. When you go on Band of the Day, you become instantly famous.

M: Well, I’d want to hear an interview with Muse, but they’re already famous though.

Mattias: Yeah, they’re famous. We featured them though.

M: Probably New Atlantic. Yeah, I like them.

It kind of makes you wonder if the band was singing to Freddy Krueger in their hit song “Monster.” Regardless, you can’t deny the greatness of the track and the whole album for that matter. Keep listening and I’m sure they’ll keep playing. In the meantime, we’ll keep writing and you keep reading.
